BJP Begins the Padayatra
The BJP has started a 10-day ‘Ballari Chalo’ padayatra in Karnataka. The march started on September 1 from Lingasugur in Raichur district and will reach Ballari on September 10. The BJP plans to cover around 170 km during the journey.
Karnataka BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra is leading the march. Other BJP leaders and party workers are also joining him. During the padayatra, they are travelling through different areas and meeting local people.
Why Did BJP Start This March?
The BJP is using the padayatra to raise several issues against the Congress government. The party has spoken about alleged corruption, farmers’ problems, drought relief, government vacancies and the use of funds meant for SC/ST communities.

Valmiki Corporation Issue
The Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation case is also one of the major issues behind the BJP’s campaign. The BJP had demanded action against former minister B. Nagendra in connection with the case.
Although Nagendra resigned, the BJP decided to continue its padayatra. The party is now talking about other issues as well and using the march as a larger campaign against the state government.
