Actor and social activist Chetan Ahimsa is going to take a new step in his public life by entering electoral politics. On August 9, 2026, during his visit to Mangaluru, Chetan announced plans to form a new regional political party in Karnataka. The proposed party aims to bring together activists, organizers and leaders of social movements who share a common vision of equality, justice and people-centerd governance.
A Political Alternative For Karnataka
Chetan says that the idea behind the new party is to create an alternative political platform rather than simply support one of the existing parties. He has spoken about building a society based on the Constitution, equality and social justice. According to reports, the party’s registration process is already underway, Chetan has also said that his team is travelling across Karnataka and working to build an organisation in all 224 Assembly constituencies before the 2028 elections.
The proposed political movement is expected to focus on issues including social equality, education, healthcare, employment, regional development, environmental protection, freedom of expression and corruption-free governance.
January 2027 Hubballi Convention Could Be a Major Milestone
One of the biggest developments is the plan for a large convention in Hubballi in January 2027, where the event is expected to formally reveal the party’s name, symbol, flag, manifesto and state committee. Chetan has also said that the party’s name will reflect its core principles of equality and constitutional values. Until that formal launch takes place, the group should be described as a proposed or emerging political party rather than an already established political party.
What Will the New Party Stands For ?
Chetan has spoken about several principles that could shape the party’s political agenda. These include:
- Gender equality
- Caste equality
- Economic equality
- Secularism
- Regional and cultural equality
- Environmental protection
- Fighting corruption
- Freedom of expression
- Media freedom
- Education and healthcare reforms
- Police and prison reforms
- Better infrastructure and use of technology
Can Chetan Ahmisha’s Party Challenge Existing Political Parties?
The announcement has added another voice to Karnataka’s competitive political landscape. However, building a political party from the ground up is very different from leading a social movement. The biggest challenge for Chetan will be creating a strong organisation at the grassroots level. The party will need committed workers, credible candidates, financial resources and a clear campaign strategy across 224 constituencies.
It will also need to convince voters that its promises can be converted into practical policies. Public support for an activist’s ideas does not automatically translate into votes, making the period before the 2028 Karnataka Assembly elections particularly important.
A New Chapter Begins
Chetan Ahimsa has spent years speaking publicly about social justice and equality. Now, he is attempting to take those ideas directly into politics. Whether the proposed party becomes a significant force or remains a smaller alternative will ultimately depend on how strongly people respond to its message.
For now, one thing is clear: Karnataka’s political conversation has gained a new voice, and the coming months will reveal whether Chetan Ahimsa can turn his vision of an “equal society” into a real political movement.
