US Canada Tariff Deadline Approaching
The U.S. has proposed to impose 50 percent tariffs on Canadian imports as of August 19, 2026.

President Trump granted the Canadian government a three-day extension of its tariffs before the deadline of midnight on Friday.
The U.S. and Canada have reached a preliminary understanding to let the tariffs expire while the negotiations continue.

While Canada’s prime minister, Mark Carney, was upbeat about the developments, he stated that the negotiations would continue because both countries had to conclude other deals before termination of the tariffs on several other areas including market access, economic security, digital trade, and more.
