    ICICI Bank Enhances Overseas Borrowing

ICICI Bank has strengthened its overseas borrowing capacity of $5 billion to fund foreign debt.

The bank is looking to raise capital through bonds, notes and offshores certificates of deposits.

The bank’s overseas borrowing facility will further enable it to tap into international debt markets to meet its future funding requirements.

ICICI Bank Raises $2.05 Billion In Dollar Debt

ICICI Bank has raised $2.05 billion in dollar-denominated debt within a month by issuing a five-year US dollar bond, which is worth $750 million during August 2026.

As a result, the jump in foreign debt came on the heels of ICICI Bank’s huge fundraising drive through overseas borrowings.

ICICI Bank Aims To Raise More Funds

The Indian lender can use international debt to fund its expanding operations in its home markets since raising funds overseas will further enable the bank to tap into diverse markets.

The RBI foreign-currency swap scheme also plays a significant role in influencing the borrowing decision of the bank.

The RBI’s latest scheme to buy foreign currency forward contracts for eligible banks also helps in reducing hedging costs of long-dated borrowings.

ICICI Bank Back In International Debt Markets

ICICI Bank raised $500 million through a dollar-denominated bond in December 2017 and entered the international markets after nearly a decade.

ICICI’s foreign borrowing is on the rise as compared to last year.

The lender booked a syndicated offshore loan worth $1.45 billion during August 2026

ICICI Sees Further Rise In Foreign Borrowing

Recalling that the bank has raised about $2 billion overseas within a month, the latest fundraising will further increase the lender’s overseas borrowing capacity.

In light of the current economic environments, fluctuations in exchange rates and interest rates around the world will affect the cost of foreign borrowing.

However, the bank has diversified its risk management in terms of funding requirements through offshores, term deposits, and swaps.

ICICI Bank Looks To Raise Much More

ICICI’s latest overseas borrowing reflects a shift as the lender expands its presence across international markets.

The enhanced $5 billion overseas borrowing capacity will empower it to raise an extended foreign debt in the near future.
