    Corrections Policy

The Diplomat India is committed to maintaining accuracy and transparency in its journalism. We recognise that errors can occasionally occur in the reporting, editing or publication process. When a material factual error is identified and verified, we will take appropriate steps to correct the record.

This policy explains how readers can report potential errors and how The Diplomat India approaches corrections and updates.

    1. Our Commitment to Accuracy

We make reasonable efforts to verify information before publication and to ensure that published articles accurately represent the information available from reliable sources.

If we discover that an article contains a factual error, we will review the issue and, where appropriate, correct the information.

A correction may be made when information is demonstrably inaccurate, materially incomplete or incorrectly presented.

    2. What Can Be Reported

Readers may contact us about potential errors involving:

    • Names
    • Dates
    • Locations
    • Numbers and statistics
    • Quotations
    • Official positions or titles
    • Factual statements
    • Attribution
    • Other objectively verifiable information

Correction requests should identify the specific statement in question and, where possible, provide reliable evidence supporting the requested correction.

    3. How to Request a Correction

    Please email:

    corrections@thediplomatindia.com

A correction request should preferably include:

    Article URL:
The web address of the article.

    Specific error:
The exact statement or information that may be incorrect.

    Correct information:
The information you believe should replace it.

    Supporting source:
A link to an official document, record or other reliable source where available.

    Contact information:
Your name and a method of contacting you if clarification is required.

Providing supporting evidence helps our editorial team evaluate the request efficiently.

    4. Editorial Review

All correction requests are subject to editorial review.

    The editorial team may consult:

    • Original documents
    • Official records
    • Government sources
    • Court records
    • Direct statements
    • Relevant data
    • Other reliable sources

A correction will not automatically be made simply because a person, organisation or reader disputes an article.

The editorial team will determine whether the information is factually incorrect and whether a correction is warranted.

    5. Types of Corrections

Depending on the nature and significance of an error, The Diplomat India may:

Correct the article directly when the error is minor and does not materially change the meaning of the report.

Add a correction note when the error is material and readers should be informed that the published information has been corrected.

Update the article when significant new verified information becomes available.

Remove or substantially revise content in exceptional circumstances where continued publication would create a significant factual, legal or ethical concern.

    6. Correction Notes

Where appropriate, a material correction may be identified with a note such as:

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated [brief description]. The article has been corrected to reflect the accurate information.

The wording of a correction note may vary depending on the nature of the error.

    7. Corrections to Headlines

If an error appears in a headline, the headline will be corrected when necessary.

We aim to ensure that headlines accurately represent the contents of the article and do not create a misleading impression.

    8. Quotes and Attributions

If a quotation or attribution is found to be materially inaccurate, we will review the original source or recording where available.

Where appropriate, the quotation or attribution will be corrected and the article may include a correction note.

    9. Developing Stories

News reports may be updated as new verified information becomes available.

An update is not necessarily a correction.

For example, if an official investigation provides additional confirmed information after an initial report, the article may be updated to reflect that development.

Where a significant update is made, the article may display an appropriate Updated date and time.

We do not intentionally change publication dates merely to make older stories appear newly published.

    10. Corrections vs. Editorial Disagreement

    A disagreement with an article’s:

    • Analysis
    • Interpretation
    • Opinion
    • Editorial perspective
    • Political or policy viewpoint

does not necessarily constitute a factual error.

Readers are welcome to raise legitimate concerns, but the corrections process is primarily intended to address objectively verifiable inaccuracies.

    11. Legal and Regulatory Matters

Where a correction request involves a legal notice, court proceeding, regulatory matter or other formal process, the publication may review the relevant documents and seek appropriate editorial or legal advice before making a decision.

Nothing in this policy limits any rights or obligations available under applicable Indian law.

    12. Corrections and Search Engines

When an article is materially corrected, the corrected version remains part of the publication’s editorial record unless there is a legitimate reason for removal.

The Diplomat India does not intentionally create or modify articles merely to manipulate search-engine freshness, rankings or news-discovery systems.

    13. Reader Feedback

Readers play an important role in helping us identify potential errors.

A correction request should be factual and specific. Anonymous or incomplete requests may be reviewed, but the absence of contact information or supporting evidence may limit our ability to investigate the matter.
