Why are doctors protesting?
There is protest is going on in Bhopal by medical interns. Doctors who work as an intern from Gandhi Medical College and Hamidia Hospital are asking the government to increase their monthly stipend.
The interns currently get around Rs14,337 but that was not enough according to their profession and work. They want to increase their amount upto Rs30,000.
The doctors say that their work is not easy. They have to work for long hours and deal with many patients. Because of this, they feel that their stipend should be increased.
What happened during the protest ?
On September 7, 2026 the protest become more tense and serious. Police used for their saftey and to stop this protest the water cannons to move the protesting doctors away from the area near Hamidia Hospital.
Videos of the incident were shared online. Some doctors were reportedly hurt during the incident.
The police action also made the situation more serious. The protesting interns continued to raise their demands.
Protest affects traffic
On September 8, the doctors continued their protest. They also blocked a road near Kamla Park.
Because of this, traffic in the nearby areas was affected. People travelling through the area faced delays.
The doctors are asking the government for a written promise about the stipend increase. They do not want to depend only on verbal assurances.
Government looks into the matter
The police action has also become an important part of the issue. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav took note of the incident.
After this, Bhopal Police ordered an inquiry into the use of water cannons. The inquiry will look at what happened during the protest.

There is conversation held between the government and the doctors, but the issue has not been solved yet.
